Gifted - Extended Lore

Overview
The Gifted are a special group of individuals among the human population who have developed abilities. In other vernaculars they are called Mutants, although their powers are not necessarily a product of gene mutation. What separates these people from the mages is that their abilities are not a product of being able to manipulate the essence of magic, meaning that they are not spell casters. They usually need only to think in order to use their abilities and do not technically need to go through a form of schooling to use their powers like mages have to do.

The powers of the gifted are also less versatile than that of mages, usually having a single power, or a set of powers that they cannot change. The origins of these powers are many and far in between. Some may have been government experiments, some subjects in magical rituals, while other will have powers bestowed upon them by greater spirits such as angels or demons. Some are even the product of a consummation between one human parent and another magical entity parent. People with inherent psychic abilities are among those who can be considered gifted. It is often also easy to mistake a human possessing a magical artifact as gifted. To be considered gifted the power has to be something not extraneous.

There is no real way of managing to pin point the exact origins of gifted as there are many of them and their lives and powers seem to have no connection with each other. Some families have powers which are hereditary, but this is not always the case. Unless augmented by their specific power, these people are just regular humans.

Powers and Abilities
The Gifted have a variety of abilities that are specific to themselves. Among them can be included, mediums, seers, people with psychic abilities, government experiments, half-breeds and the like. There are no real boundaries to what powers these gifted people can manifest; sometimes they aren’t even supernatural at all.

Weaknesses
The Gifted, aside from their powers are also essentially human. They have all the weaknesses a normal human has, their strength speed and stamina are all proportional to the training they go through, unless of course the nature of their unique ability grants an exception. Most of them will age at a human rate and will also recover from injuries at the same human rate. With their own specific powers, also come specific weaknesses and limits.

A common problem among gifted individuals is that they tend to feel ostracized or alone, especially considering that the nature of their power highlights their essentially uniqueness. It is quite improbable to find two gifted individuals with exactly the same ability. Even if two gifted individuals have telekinesis, it will differ in the strength, the usage, or the cause of manifestation. A lot of Gifted individuals keep the existence of their powers as a secret due to fear of being labeled as different and shunned by society. This has happened in history numerous times.
