Kohana Mijoro
biological information
Full Name: Kohana Mijoro Nickname: Pup Alias(es): Trickster Gender: Male Orientation: Straight Age: 15 Date of Birth: 16 January 1997 Marital Status: Single Place of Birth: Fort Peck Lakota Reservation Race: Gifted - Walker Occupation: None
Physical Appearance: Kohana is a Lakota Native American and will never be a very big man. He has just turned 15, his height is about five foot three, and seems to be at least a little bit underweight for his age. His ribs show a little bit but he's not unhealthy. His dark brown hair is very long, reaching his waist. He usually keeps it in a single braid. He has light brown eyes, and is very soft featured.
Being that he is a Walker, he also has a Coyote form. Since he is not fully grown as an adult, his Coyote looks to be a six month old pup. His fur is soft and fluffy, with soft browns and tans and a pure white underside. The pup also looks a little bit underweight with his ribs showing, due to poor hunting lately.
Because he prefers his Coyote form when he travels because he does not have to spend money for food or shelter, he does not often have a lot of clothing. He has a small pack with adjustable straps that can be loosened to fit his human form, and tightened to fit his Coyote. It has one seatbelt strap that goes over the shoulder, cross the chest and one waist strap that can be tightened by pulling the cord, or loosened by lifting up the plastic piece. It can only carry one change of clothes, whatever money he might have, up to 2 days of dry food and a small knife on an outside pocket sheathe. He does not like shoes, underwear, gloves, belts, hats, or sunglasses. About his neck, he wears a loose necklace made of three rows of bead and bone that fits both forms as the neck of both is pretty close to same.
His preferred style is limited to what he can carry in the pack, and will be loose, comfortable clothing that he can wiggle out of if he has to change suddenly from human to Coyote. He likes light toned colors.

special abilities
Powers: - Shifting- All Walkers possess the ability to change into a Coyote. The process is almost instant, is magic, and is painless and not moon controlled. Clothing does not change with them, so only things that are designed to do so can. Anything put on the Coyote that restricts, prevents them from changing back because it would kill them. (A tight collar, harness, etcetera)
- Heightened Senses - As a Human, his senses are slightly better than the above average person. As a Coyote, they are better than a dog, but not quite as good as a wolf. His best sense is scent, it’s not amazing but he can tell someone has been there up to two months indoors if there is not a lot of other conflicting scents like cleaners or a lot of people. Outside there are a lot of factors that influence how long a scent remains, wind and rain being most significant. Scents are hard to classify, but easy to remember.
- Can see ghosts - Walkers can see Ghosts. They can communicate with them, and if they are really good at it, can send them along and cross over. Only people who died violently, or under extreme conditions, or have something very important left to do, will leave a ghost behind. He is not very practiced with ghosts, and sometimes they appear as normal people, with a scent and everything so are hard to distinguish between alive or not.
- Limited magical immunity- Immune to most illusions, telepathy, and mind reading attempts. Average users of these abilities do not affect, with stronger attempts can be resisted but may work and the most powerful bypass all resistance.
- Can sense magic -If there is a magic artifact in the area, with the distance of about a football field length, he could sense it, similar to a smell. It would greatly depend on how strong the item was on how good he could detect it. As he gets closer to the item, it would be easier to locate, until he touches the item, then he would get a little information about the type of magic it is. People who can use magic, can also be detected in the same way, but within a lot closer range of about 20 feet. In a crowd, they would be very hard to pick out. Kohana is aware of this ability as well, but it takes a lot of practice to be able to narrow down and pinpoint things or sensing just what is different about a person that makes them magic, unless they are doing magic in the moment.
Skills:
- Kohana is a decent fighter. His father taught him the basics of various styles, mostly unarmed combat. This consists of grapples, holds, chokes, a few pressure points, block, jabs and kicks. He is also good with a knife, with the intent of a quick kill so he would go for the neck, or a debilitating cut to muscle groups or specific nerves so that he could then finish them off. He has no practice with a gun.
- Tracker - Kohana's senses allow him to track scents, or identify things by smell as previously defined.
- Undetected – Unless he is actively using his abilities, as in, he makes it known that he knows there is an illusion, he knows there is something off about someone, or he is seen changing forms, it is nearly impossible to know that he is a Walker. Someone who can sense magic might be able to sense his shape shifting ability, but that is not by itself something that would identify him as a Walker. There are other people who can shape shift.
Personal Possessions: The most important thing to him from his childhood is a necklace made of three rows of bead and bone. It has no special qualities, it is just important to him, passed down from his Grandfather who was also a Walker and who taught him about what he is and their past.
He also has a backpack he has modified. It has adjustable straps, one that crosses right shoulder to left side, and the other around the waist. It can only fit a limited amount of items. He has thirty dollars for emergencies and one change of clothes.
Weapons and Equipment:He has a six inch knife in a sheathe on the outside of his pack within easy reach as a human form.
Limitations: - Shifting is very taxing. He can only go from human to coyote and back, or coyote to human and back, in the same day if he has rested a while between shifts. It also makes him hungry as it takes energy. He cannot stop between forms to make an anthropomorphic phase; there is none.
- The Walker can lose all of their ability and become a regular person if they commit an act that destroys their morality. This is defined most notably as murder of innocent people and theft for the sake of gaining unnecessary wealth/possessions.
- The Coyote form is best for sensing magical presences, and can do so at a slightly greater range because magic has its own unique scent and feel.
- Walkers have been hunted to near extinction because of their ability to see ghosts and sense magic. It is a recessive trait and skips generations. In the past, they were hunters of the supernatural and because vampires and other evil creatures have a tendency to be messy killers, the ghosts they leave behind make it easier to locate and track them. Their sense of morality makes it easier to find tell the difference between someone who is innocent and someone who is not.
psychoanalysis
Personality Description:Kohana is aware of his nature and his race’s background. His Grandfather wanted him to continue the lifestyle, but Kohana was born in an age where things that go bump in the night are just stories. He does not want to be a hunter. He just wants to live a mostly normal life. He is still very young and innocent in the ways of the world. He ran away at age fourteen and has been on his own, mostly living as a Coyote as it is easier to survive.
Like the Coyote of his heritage and lore, he is a Trickster by nature. He likes to play to occasional harmless practical joke once he is comfortable with someone, and can be good at twisting words to say what he wants you to believe. He might hide things for the fun of it. He has a tendency to rebel authority and wants to be independent and live his own life. He will not often do exactly what an adult tells him to do. He does not go about breaking the law, but he might have to bend a rule enough to get by if it’s necessary. He has a good hold on his emotions and does not rise to anger easily.
Raised Catholic, Kohana believes in God, but does not hold too many of the traditions and practices. He has seen enough of the world to feel there has to be something up there and knowing about the evil in the world, knows there is always balance so there has to be something good as well.
Kohana can be a fierce friend and loyal companion…if he wants to. He does not tolerate people who are cruel to others or animals for no reason and will stand up against unnecessary violence, but he is not suicidal and knows when something is over his head and will get away.
If he does find people with supernatural gifts, werewolves, vampires, magic folk, he will be wary of them, and if they know what he is, they might be wary of him as well if they know the stories. Walkers have always been rare, but there are books and legends of their deeds that the older people of each race might be aware of. He will not befriend pure evil. He might make allies with the gifted and people who are not inherently out to hurt people.
Strengths:- Adaptable- Coyotes in the wild adapt well to changes and adjust hunting styles depending on what they are after. They have become accustomed to cities and live near and around human's with ease. Kohana has these similar traits.
- Cuteness- Being young has its advantages. Kohana appears like your typical teenager. He is unassuming and blends in with a crowd. He is subtle with his abilities and secretive with what he knows about someone.
- Morality- Possess a strong sense of right and wrong by definitions and boundaries as pertains to what is necessary for basic survival. Killing something inherently evil, like a vampire, is acceptable.
- Loyalty/Protective- Once you have earned his protection and trust, you are doomed to be his friend for a very long time unless you do something that totally breaks all the rules.
- Attentive to detail- Kohana does not miss much. He analyzes and discerns things with ease. Within a few minutes of meeting someone, he can determine what kind of person they are, what they ate for breakfast and what kind of mood they are in based on scent/body language. Some emotions let off different scents, such as fear has a very specific smell that a lot of predators react to.
Weaknesses:- Authority- Kohana tends to be a bit of a trickster and resists being told what to do. Not always a good thing.
- Cold- Kohana has survived on his own and throughout his childhood by not letting people in. He can be quiet and observant.
- Stubborn- Typical of your adolescent teenager, Kohana feels like he can do anything he wants (within reason) and will keep trying until he does.
- Sensitive- Kohana tends to avoid very pungent smells or very loud places. They confuse and disorient him.
- Depressed- Kohana has been alone for a while and has begun to lose interest in some things. He doesn’t eat well these days, and is a bit more withdrawn than usual.
Fear/s:Kohana absolutely HATES being restrained. He will not willingly let something be put on him that he can’t get out of. His Coyote form is very wary of larger predators; it is a natural animal reaction. A lot of dogs do not like coyotes and the more aggressive ones might attack or chase him. He is still a small coyote pup so he has to be careful around larger predators because can and will kill him. He is also afraid or, at least wary of, being exposed for what he is. He knows there are things out there that won’t like him so he has to be confidential.
Goal/s:To be someone his Grandfather would have been proud of, because he respects the man, but to still be his own person. He wants to find a new place in the world where he can belong without being judged for what and who he is.
biography
Their Story: Kohana has born in the midwinter in a Lakota reservation barely 15 years ago. His parents were a little surprised to discover a puppy in the crib when he was six months old and from there on his Grandfather had a lot to do with raising him. He gained more control of his shifting at around a year. He was a bright child and learned quickly and was trained in the ways of fighting in the hopes that as a Walker, very rare as they are, might carry some of the traditions. But Kohana was not interested in these attempts, though he did enjoy learning the combat, he had no interest in pursuing his Grandfathers old dreams. He was so far removed from the dangers of the world that he did not care about what was out there. Kohana enjoyed just being a kid and playing with others, getting in fights for the fun of it, just going about his business.
After school, he would often run off and play as a Coyote, exploring and keeping up his own little territory. He had a couple of friends he hung out with, but mostly he kept to himself. His best friend was killed in a drunk driving accident in which he was hit by another car that t-boned the passenger side his friend was sitting. Kohana was supposed to have been with them. He had declined an invitation to see a movie that night, in lieu of wanting to go on a hunt. He feels sometimes that he could have prevented the accident because when he would go with them, they would take the longer, scenic route instead of going directly through town.
After losing his best friend, he became even more withdrawn and would get angry and testy. He began to be more frustrated with his Grandfather and parents. They wanted him to do better in school and be successful and be a doctor or a lawyer or something, his Grandfather wanted him to be some kind of super hero who went around like Van Helsing killing supernaturals, while Kohana himself just wanted to be just that, himself. He didn’t know what he wanted to do yet, he was only fourteen, but he was just tired of being pressured into things and being what he wasn't interested in. Finally, he got sick of everything and left. He threw a few things in his pack, put all his savings in it, and ran off.
He has been traveling around, exploring, and loving it. He has mostly stayed outside of cities and towns but occasionally enters to wander around a bit and find a little mischief and listen to people. He has traveled to the East Coast of the US, about as far as he can get from his home town because he has been labeled a Missing Person. He has wandered nearer to Arc because the City has a habit of drawing in folks.
He is starting to get bored again and misses his family. He kind of wants to go back, but he feels like everything will go back to the way it was. He knows now that he really is interested in the martial arts and might want to teach it or do it professionally. He just wants to be free to choose.
