THE EYE OF THE STORM [atrb=valign, top][style=border-left:4px solid #fa7a7a; font-size:10px; line-height:13px; padding-left:8px; text-align:justify; text-transform:lowercase; padding-right:8px;] There was only so much time a girl could spend lugging boxes around, and unpacking things and moving things around; before they just had enough and had to get out before you can break a nail or something. it was just one bad thing after another all morning, when first the delivery men arrived late and punctuality is a must for any kind of relationship being working or otherwise. then second they break one of her favourite portraits that she paid an absolute fortune for, so the amazing arc city was not living up to the standards that cecile had expected it would. i mean you would think when a girl moved half way across the world, there would be good service; but she guessed not.
coming out of her new apartment which was gorgeous, but she guessed the sinking, kind of i hate the world right now feeling was just the fact she was out of her comfort zone. she decided to take a walk into the main part of the city, it was such a strange place a lot different to berlin, as she half expected for people to be rolling out red carpets for her; which is what would happen if she went back home. however, nobody knew her here, which is a thought that she can't get her head around, as she walked past passers by no-one really paid that much attention to her apart from the awkward stare.
the place itself was very strange and cecile could feel that as soon as she came out of the airport, it just had a cold sense to it and she knew that feeling meant there was big magic happening all around here. she couldn't quite pick up on what it was exactly, but she knew that she would find out eventually. she was determined that it wouldn't be long before people were stopping her to say hello, or keeping their head down and looking away when she went passed. it gave her a feeling of pride to feel like she was the centre of attention, well not exactly the centre just a part of it enough to be recognised.
right so i have no idea where i am going, maybe i should ask someone for directions, she thought to herself as she tried to eye up a suitable victim for her questions. Finally, the pup had gotten away from Lenny and boy had it not been easy. The kid kept an eye on him like a hawk on a mouse, at least that was how Kohana tended to feel about the guy. It was a bit unnerving being surrounded by the scent of Wolf for too long so Kohana had to get out and run around just to feel safe again. It had been two days already and he was giddy to be out. He had barely esacped the little 'house' Lenny had made for him. He didn't know why he'd let himself get taken home by that crazy kid. Oh well.
Running down the street was fun. Kohana rolled in some street filth so he could look (and smell) like a wild stray city dog and off he went. He had never been in such a large city as Arc was. His community had been small, and he'd done his best to stay out of trouble. His tail swaying back and forth, the coyote pup went up to different buildings, sniffing at the doors, hydrants, anything and everything. It wasn't long before he realized that strays weren't too common to be running around. Twice, he was nearly picked up by the animal control. Laughing to himself, he had taken to running up the alleys to keep off of the streets.
That changed briefly when he watched a pretty girl in a short skirt walking up the sidewalk. He grinned, running up behind her, hopping around her steps, trying to get close enough to peek upward before running off with his tongue lolling out in a laugh. He might be 15 but he was plenty old enough to know what was under some lacy panties. Sometimes he loved being a foot off the ground a bit too much.
Other times, he hated it. Back in the alley, still laughing and cheering to himself at his accomplishment, his nose told him there was something good to eat aruond here. It wasn't that Lenny didn't feed him, he did, always with his, 'you better eat all of it' speech. But occasionally he didn't mind something different and the leftover fish insides was a very appealing difference. It didn't even occur to him to be pondering why the bag had been ripped open.
Digging in happily, he was distracted and didn't notice the black alley cat staring down at him. With a sudden and very loud Meerrrrrooooowwwrrrooow she had jumped down and slashed at his muzzle with her large paws. The pup had no doubt believing this black demon beast could kill him and startled, he spun tail and dashed out of that alley like his ass was on fire, shamelessly yelping with fear and pain.
He dashed out directly in front of a passing Cecile, straight out into the streets. The blue mustang that was flying up the street honked his horn. He couldn't avoid either way, the car on the other side him, pedestrians on the sidewalk. He couldn't even slow down because of the asshole on his tail. He could only honk and grimace. He liked dogs.

The Central Business Districts was alive with activity as Nate walked its pristine sidewalks. This part of Arc City was very different from what the young werewolf was used to, living in the slums and all. The buildings here were clean and beautiful to look at, unlike the dilapidated, graffiti-covered, buildings of the slums. The people here wore designer clothing while they walked around with the latest gadgets in their hands, one held at the ear as they jabbered on to someone on the other end while another was used to text, sending messages, photos, and what not to more people. People here had always seemed taller to Nate, probably because their backs were always straighter than those who lived back home where disease and the fact they lived in poverty had curved theirs. The whole scene was beautiful to watch, if you weren’t used it. It was just so sparkly.
Nate hated that.
The young werewolf really hated this part of the city. Everything was too shiny. You could tell something didn’t smell right even if you didn’t have a sensitive nose like Nate did. The placed reeked too much of one thing—greed. Even now, as the young werewolf walked towards the appointed meeting place, he could hear the people as they spoke in their shiny cell phones. The conversations consisted mainly of money related matters. They always did whenever Nate found himself unlucky enough to visit this place. The young man wanted to sigh. There was nothing to do about the situation though. He had to come here. A client had requested a meeting with Nate in this district. If it weren’t for that, the young werewolf wouldn’t be seen here. Already, he was getting strange glances as he walked around wearing a faded cobalt blue shirt with the words, “Careful, I bite” written on the front along with a pair of acid washed denims and a pair of obviously worn pair of black chuck taylors. The way they looked at him, you’d think he was some sort of alien or lost stray. Nate didn’t let them bother him though; he was used to the stares. He had come to districts like this on a few occasions and had those stares given to him as well. Nothing new. That didn’t mean the young man wasn’t tempted to rip their heads off though.
Something had caught Nate’s attention then as he saw something small running across the road—into an oncoming car. Shit. Before he could form another thought, the young werewolf had the small dog in his arms and was apparently on the other side of the street. Damn, Nate thought. He had just used his powers in a public place! Idiot! He was about to look around when the dog’s scent caught his attention. Ugh, he thought as he held the dog away from him with one hand. The dog smelled filthy—like it had been rolling around in trash. It smelled awful, more so with Nate’s sensitive nose. Still, Nate thought as he examined the dog, he had smelled something else on the on the animal. He was about to check again when he remembered about the whole incident. He quickly raised his head, looking for any indication of people staring at him, or even probably screaming at the young man’s ability to somehow run at such a speed. No one seemed to notice it, the young werewolf thought as he observed the people as they continued to walk on quick steps, their thoughts buried in conversation and other crap. Nate had thought no one had seen him when he froze, his eyes locking on another pair of eyes staring at him.
Fuck.

SEND IN THE FLYING MONKEYS [atrb=valign, top][style=border-left:4px solid #fa7a7a; font-size:10px; line-height:13px; padding-left:8px; text-align:justify; text-transform:lowercase; padding-right:8px;]Arc City was definitely a strange place, just when she needed to ask somebody for directions it was as if by magic that something happened. Cecile didn’t think anything was strange anymore after what she had seen, and she also partly believed that things happened for a reason; and she knew for certain that there were higher powers playing a part in the events down here. But she didn’t always have the best inclination into some of the things that have happened.
Cecile couldn’t quite make out what it was that had run past her and everyone else in the street at first, it looked a little to big for a dog, but then for a split second she thought it could have been a fox. When the poor thing had run straight out into the middle of the road her heart pounded a little bit faster, it could have been someone’s pet and she would be distraught if that had been hers. Before she even had chance to react to the situation, a tingle up the bank of her neck signaled for her to stop and in a somewhat haze a man who had been walking on the other side of the road just moments ago happened to be stood on her side with the animal in his hands.
The tingle and the vanishing act the man had done had instantly got Cecile on her toes, she had been here for all of two days and she knew that something supernatural had happened. If it wasn’t then it was some pretty good science, but she highly doubted that no matter how advanced the city was. Allowing her mind to do what she had done countless times, tiny strands of her being oozed out like tentacles but this man stood before her was no Magic User, she couldn’t quite make out what he was; which put her on edge and all’s she could do was stare at him, until he stared back.
“Bravo, sir” she whispered to him with somewhat of a smirk on her face. The instant he came back to his senses and stopped running was just as he had taken about three bounds and realized where he was. Blinking, the coyote pup froze, turning his head to look in the direction of coming traffic. He now knew how a deer felt, because he was paralyzed. You know how they say; your life passes before your eyes the moment before you expect to die? Well he definitely had that experience. He almost got bored by the end of it. His life hadn’t exactly been anything to make a movie about. He had never even kissed a girl yet! Hell, he didn’t even like any girls yet! What was his future wife supposed to do without him if he were to die right now? He thought about his Grandpa, and all of his stories, and how he never even told the man thank you for being there for him when no one else would. He even thought about all of the bunnies he’d ever eaten, and apologized. Would he get to meet the Great Spirit now? Would he come back as a real coyote like he sometimes imagined?
It was all too much to consider, any second now and the car would be upon him. His head lowered, tail wrapping about him, he was reflexively moving very rapidly, his intentions were that he might become so small that he might pass safely beneath the car, and it most likely would have worked, with his next move being to watch the cars that came and dart back the moment it was clear. But before he could complete his movements, it happened so fast, he suddenly felt hands wrapping around him and he was wrenched from his spot of doom.
Kohana slowly opened his eyes. He was alive? He was alive!! His poor heart was always beating a lot quicker when he was a coyote form, as it was a small animal, his heartbeat was fast naturally, but after that experience, it was practically thrumming in vibrations! His head turned to look back at the cars whizzing by. They seemed to move so much faster now that he was watching them go by, instead of watching one coming at him. He didn’t even mind that he was now being held by a stranger. He normally did not like being picked up by strangers, but for now, he would make an exception. This guy might even get lucky enough to get one of his little thank you kisses under the chin. He gave a long, loud yelp whine that ended with a bark, totally giving away what type of creature he was. Coyotes were known for their wider variations of sounds and vocal arrangements. His tail started swaying back and fourth ninety to nothing, and he squirmed in the man’s hands, trying to twist around to lick him, then just settled for licking his arm, it was the closest he could reach. He kept voicing his joy with yelp-barks.
He finally stilled enough to notice there was a woman staring at them. He seemed to think about what had just happened. His heart could have stopped right then and there for all that it skipped a beat, quite unnoticed as it was one in a thousand a second it felt like was going on right now. A chill iced down his spine, as a scent crossed his nose. Wolf. In the wild, Wolves would often chase down and kill coyotes, it was a very natural reaction to become afraid at the scent of one. It did not help that he also had a human’s mind, he was not just a coyote after all but a shifter, more accurately, a Walker, not that either of these people would know it by looking at him, he looked and smelled like a…well…a dirty coyote. Perhaps laced beneath those two scents would be his contact with Lenny, also a werewolf. But this man wasn’t Lenny. He knew that with the scent of Wolf, far from the forest and the wild, was a werewolf, not a regular wolf. By the stories of his Grandfather, werewolves were vicious, evil, unnatural killers. Yet, Lenny had not seemed so much a danger, despite having witnessed the speed of the young man. But did one good wolf rewrite all of the truth for the rest of them? Somehow, he did not think so.
Ears pinning down against his head, the pup whimpered as his nose twitched. He gave a whined bark, a little closer in the direction of distress and fear, and his squirms were that of trying to get away. In the next minute, he remembered that it was the same Wolf that had just rescued him, and he was torn between being grateful and being afraid, so he settled for being still and quiet. Lenny had frightened him at first as well, but some food and not crowding him had allowed his coyote to relax, even willing to go with him. He could quite easily shift and get dropped, and try to scramble for the alley if he felt truly threatened. The thought crossed his mind as being a possibility.
Clearly the man had good intentions, but good intentions only got one so far. But then again he had just pulled him out of the road. The pup sniffed some more and seemed to be puzzled, smelling a wolf, but not seeing a wolf, as if he didn't realize the smell was from the man. He would give this one the benefit of the doubt for the moment. The coyote seemed to dismiss the scent, going back to being his happy to be safe, grateful self, albeit with slightly less enthusiasm now that he had caught his breath and the moment had passed.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck! Nate thought as he stared at the blonde who was staring at him. She hadn't spoken yet, but Nate was certain this woman would proceed to make his life harder—everyone else he’d encountered thus far had. What was it with blondes and Nate? Did these women have some sort of little group designed to torture the young werewolf? The young man’s thoughts were cut as the woman began to speak, her voice a soft whisper as she smirked at him.
What? Nate thought, blinking at the blonde. Her voice came in a whisper, but Nate heard it clearly; she had just given him a compliment. The young werewolf got tense, his thoughts a blur. The woman, it seemed, wasn’t surprised by his sudden speed. Either she was a nut ball, or another supernatural. It could go either way really, it could even be both—there was at least one of those in Arc City. Still, Nate didn’t like being at a disadvantage, not knowing who or what, the other person was. The breeze blew at a direction that proved disadvantageous to the young man as it blew towards the blonde woman, making her scent lost to the wind. Still, Nate had been in worse situations before—a few days ago, really—and would be able to manage.
He was about to speak when the dog yelped at him, distracting Nate has he turned to look at the pup. The small thing was struggling in his grip, trying to get at him, before it settled on licking his hand. Nate was about to pet him when he froze, the scent of the pup finally registering in his mind. The dog smelled different; special. A shifter, Nate thought as his eyes turned sharp as he eyed the dog. The whole licking his arm thing now seemed gross. The puppy seemed to catch on to Nate’s thoughts as it began to struggle frantically in his grip, its ears pinned on its head. Clearly, the dog wasn’t anyone’s. Still, Nate thought he smelled something else on the shifter, something familiar. The dog’s struggles had become too annoying for the young werewolf as, with a quick movement, he held the dog by the scruff of its neck, its body facing the young werewolf.
“You’re small for your age, aren’t you?” Nate said as he smirked at the dog. For someone as old as he, the shifter was quite small. He turned then towards the blonde in front of him, flashing her a smile before he spoke.
“Thanks,” Nate spoke, his tone nonchalant though he was anything but, “I would like to ask if he’s yours, but judging from the smell, he isn’t.” Now he was dealing with two problems—a shifter and some chick. Great, Nate thought sarcastically.
He really hated this district.

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? [atrb=valign, top][style=border-left:4px solid #fa7a7a; font-size:10px; line-height:13px; padding-left:8px; text-align:justify; text-transform:lowercase; padding-right:8px;]
The whole series of events that had just happened Cecile found quite strange, and then the fact that her feelers couldn’t pick up what they were put her completely on edge. There he was a young man, she couldn’t quite tell how old he was but she thought he couldn’t be older than her, picking up what seemed to look like a very tiny strange colored wolf; this whole damn thing was just far to strange for her.
What was even more baffling was that no-one else even batted an eye lid to it; they just carried on walking past as if nothing had even happened. Was it always like that here, just supernatural occurrences and people pay not attention, or maybe it was out of fear could they all know who this person was? Was this a trap? So many thoughts were racing through her mind but she remained calm and cold on the outside as to not give anything away.
“I’m not a big fan of dogs, but seeing one run over in front of me is a bit extreme. Are you an athlete, that was some Olympic stuff right there. Maybe you should try out?” Her gaze was fixed on him like a lioness assessing her prey, she quite skilled at asking prying questions. She wanted to make this stranger feel just as awkward as she did, the best defense tactics around or so she thought anyway. “I don’t usually go around sniffing dogs so I couldn’t tell you what one smelt like, what does he smell like?” She said in a patronizing way, she kept eyeing her Hermes maybe he was just a mortal trying to rob her bag?
She was starting to feel rather flustered by the whole situation; all this on her first day out was just not needed. Where was a mall when a girl needed one?

His struggles got him nowhere, and the man seemed to become greatly irritated by him, and scruffed him, turning his small form towards himself. Kohana’s tail modestly curled up. He gave one, very soft whimper, meeting the man’s eyes. Most ignorant humans thought it was ok to scruff a dog, that it was used by other dogs as a show of dominance, or aggression, so therefore it could be used as a punishment, and to enforce obedience. The problem with scruffing a dog that was too large, lay in hurting its spine, possibly cutting off its air, or giving wrong signals and the animal would take it the wrong way and just get more hostile. He fully believed the Wolf in the man would know exactly what he was doing.
He was not really so unnaturally small. A full grown coyote would be just a little over two feet at the shoulder, and about four feet long snout to tail tip. They were usually full grown between 9 and 12 months old. Kohana was only a 15 year old child, he was not fully grown as an adult, and therefore, neither was his other form, which was about 6 months in appearance. He was not ideal in weight, a little on the light side, from having to take care of himself over the last year. Still, being held by a werewolf by the scruff of his neck was quite uncomfortable, especially as his coyote nature was vastly confused. How had he been in the wrong? Was he not supposed to have been glad to be alive? Was this Wolf really so cold hearted as to be angry with a pup for trying to thank him for saving its pathetic little life? Was this Wolf so insecure in his dominance over a tiny little thing? His single whimper, the intelligence in the look he gave the man, was a simple message. “Please sir…What did I do wrong?”
And then the man continued to speak, and he started to understand. But not fully. Lenny had caught onto something of his scent before right? Asked if he were a shifter? And Kohana’s necklace, which he still wore, had given the boy the idea perhaps he was someone’s pet and it was their scent on him he was catching. It had been enough to get by with. Lenny was a child, and this, this was a grown adult, and not quite so easily fooled. Kohana was certain he knew exactly what he was, and it was possibly that, which had stirred the Wolf’s ire. He did not think the Wolf would be happy in having a shifter around. He did not consider that the man could also mean Lenny’s scent. Not that it would make any difference, he did not belong to anyone, he had simply not had much of a choice in the matter. He really regretted ever having ventured to explore the source of the crash. Further back than that, he regretted ever leaving home.
He concluded that further noise making and wiggling would get him nowhere, so he was completely still and silent, though his head had lifted and tilted up to the right just the slightest, revealing his neck in the manner of submission, hoping that the Wolf might not consider him a threat, despite everything. He was terrified of the Wolf, of the whole situation. He considered shifting again, now would be the time, but now that he had seen the man irritated, he did not think it very smart. His listened to the woman’s reply, and ruled her out of the question for being any kind of rescuer in his dire situation.

“Olympics?” Nate laughed, brushing off the young woman’s comments about his apparent athletic ability, “No, I don’t think me joining the Olympics would be a very good idea. I mean just look at me,” Nate said as he gestured to himself with his free hand, “Skin and bones.”
Nate’s thin frame proved adequate in conveying the utter laugh worthiness of her comment, though the young werewolf knew she was fishing for something, judging by the way her eyes looked at his—some people looked at Nate like that, just when they were about to rip his head off. Still, as the blonde continued to speak, the young werewolf couldn’t help but get a little distracted by the dog currently dangling in his other hand. The dog’s scent gave Nate the impression that he was frightened, confused, but with mixtures of happiness and other, less interesting, scents. He didn’t give a damn though.
He really didn’t have the time, or the patience to deal with these two. He was just too tired. Actually, the whole week was tiring. Every turn Nate made had apparently led to some obscenely weird incidents. From all the mind games, near death experiences, and general uncomfortable situations, Nate had just about enough of anything to with the supernatural for a while. Plus, the bullet wound he suffered from that Cat was still a tad fresh on his shoulder.
“Curious?” Nate asked, a mischievous grin forming on his lips, just as the blonde finished her question, “Here.” Nate tossed the puppy towards the blonde with enough force that the blonde would either have to catch him, or let him drop. Either scenario was fine with Nate. Saving a dog was one thing, but saving a shifter dumb enough to run into oncoming traffic was a whole other story.
There. Now Nate just had to wait and he’d soon be able to get rid of two things at once.
